Why are wedding flowers so expensive?

Q & A with

Charlottesville Florist

WILLOW BRANCH FLOWERS

I went out to Google and looked up some of the most common questions about wedding flowers and asked one of our favorite local florists to share their wisdom with us!

I never expected this beautiful answer in return:

Our feeling here is that fresh flowers bring life to your space. It’s not just color, shape, texture…ephemerality has an unmistakable presence. The peony with one falling petal or the quirky butterfly ranuncula with petals all akimbo; these imperfections in a very quiet way remind us that “forever is composed of nows” as Emily Dickinson would say.

As poetic as it is, it is also completely true! There is something magical about real flowers. Even if you can’t include a fresh bouquet on each table, definitely splurge for the wedding bouquet of your dream! As a wedding photographer, I incorporate your wedding bouquet in so many ways and there is really just no substitution for the organic, romantic beauty of flowers.

I am also completely enthralled the flower pressing service that Designs by Andrea offers! I reached out to her for a future interview and can’t wait to share what I learn with you. My kids and I tried to press our own flowers for a science project and it is absolutely an art. If you want to be notified of that and future posts, just sign up below!

How long your wedding flowers last depends on the “night out” they had. Centerpieces can stay fresh for a week, especially if care is taken to make sure they stay hydrated. Some folks dry bouquets or mail them to a flower preservation artist like Designs by Andrea so they can last years. We also like to remind our couples that when they decide to use local flowers in their design, every anniversary you will see your wedding flowers in bloom.
