EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT

This portrait for a community project makes me so happy that I had to include it. My side kick, here and always, is Winslow.

WHO WE ARE

I never thought I would be a wedding photographer. I started my professional career in Boulder, Colorado, riding on the backs of motorcycles, chasing professional cyclists through winding roads and epic climbs. I never thought I would find another career as exhilarating and rewarding but I was wrong. I photographed weddings in Colorado, but it wasn’t until moving East, to Charlottesville, Virginia, that I fell in love with them. I love all of the beauty of the flowers and the pretty clothing, but what I love most is documenting the love between the two of you, and the complete joy of your best day ever.

WHY EQUALITY MATTERS

Typically, a team of two photographers will split up with one focusing on one partner and the other on the other partner. But, whenever logistically possible, I like to spend time with both partners on their wedding day. We have been spending months and, sometimes, even years getting to know each other. It is important to me that I photograph my couples equally on their wedding day, taking time to make each of them look their very best, just as I believe you should start this first step of your marriage on equal footing. This day belongs to you both.

Additionally, I am honored to celebrate all couples! We love our same-sex couples as well as couples from all religious or even secular backgrounds. One of my greatest growing experiences in the last year was at a Syrian-Muslim wedding in Charlottesville.

OUR COUPLES OUR LIKE FAMILY TO US - NO, REALLY, WE MEAN IT

After booking, I love getting to know my clients through their engagement session so that they feel prepared and confident on their wedding day. I like to keep in touch throughout the process and I love getting little messages and emails about all the exciting milestones – wedding gown and suit fittings are a high point of my day! We work together to create a timeline that not only allows for amazing photographs but leaves my couples maximum time enjoying their day with friends and family. By the time the wedding day arrives, my clients feel more like friends. And friends make much more natural, relaxed and happy images together!

I HAVE THE BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD. I mean that, too.

I use the same team of second photographers. What does that mean exactly? Sometimes, photographers hire other wedding photographers who are not working on your weekend. I don’t like to leave things to chance and like to ensure that I know exactly who is going to be part of my team on your day! This makes our work very consistent and also guarantees that your photography team is made up of the very best.

OUR FAVORITE PART OF THE DAY

While all of the wedding day images are important, my favorites are almost always from my time with my newlywed couple. We hop in a car or two and head out into the most beautiful location at your venue. For King Family Vineyards, it is usually the vineyard and for Veritas weddings, it is typically the upper meadow. During an Early Mountain vineyard wedding, we will head up to that iconic barn and the mountain view that surrounds it! The stress of the day just melts away and we create the portraits of just the two of you will be the images that you frame beside your bed or over your mantle. These will be the images that will fill your album for generations to enjoy. For this brief moment in time, you will be alone on your wedding day. You will have a chance to love on each other and connect before the craziness begins. It’s such a romantic, playful, silly time.

You probably have noticed the subtle differences from “real” interactions versus fake laughter and staged poses. Laughter, cuddles, whatever is natural for you! Every couple has a unique way of holding hands, leaning into each other, and smiling and that is what will stand the test of time.
